La Perla del Caribe

Cirsa had a project underway; bring all their most successful slot machines from physical to online world. Apart from offering this change in their web portal slot.com, they also  wanted to bring some of those games that were more successful to have their own application. One of these applications was La Perla del Caribe Deluxe, in which I had the opportunity to be part of the process as UI UX designer.

The project was itself a test that, if it had a good response from users, would lay the foundations for future applications. Since the project had these characteristic of a  testing product, they didn’t want to invest many resources, so guerrilla techniques were applied.

The project was divided into three basic phases: the research phase, the design phase and the testing and validation phase.

1- Research. Since they had never introduced any UX methodology in the development dynamics, they hadn’t developed neither“personas”,customer journeys or moments of truth, so  we extracted the data required to made it from their Google analytics database, and so we could figure out the most characteristic and significant data that particularized SGO users, and it helped us to connect and empathize with our users and for having them present in all development phases.

We also made a market research where we looked for the successful competitors and for some stories of success on which we wanted to base ourselves (without needing them to be from the same field).

2. Design. Starting from a flow diagram of everything the application implied, those ideas and links were materialized using lo-fi wireframes. These wireframes helped us to validate or discard ideas, including possible flows and connections.

Once the lo-fi wireframes were agreed, we proceeded to define more deeply the hi-fi wireframes, which served as a solid and reliable base for the design team could make their proposals under a user centered vision design.

3. Validation. Once the project passed throughdesigners and developers hands, it came the moment of truth; validate through testing if the product we had ideated was attractive to our users. To find this out, a laboratory test was organized in which, for several days, some potential users were cited in person to see how they reacted to the new product; we analyzed whether  if they understood it, if they liked it and asked them how they think the product could better meet their needs. From this test many ideas were taken that are currently being worked on for the development of the next version of the game, and even some of the ideas that have been learned are giving fruit to other new projects.
